Training for the Race
Did you know...

  •      that 1/3 of all children in this country are overweight or at risk for becoming
              overweight?
  •      in 2006, the CDC (Center for Disease Control) stated that 20-24% of adults in the
state of Virginia are considered obese?  That means that 1 out of every 4
adults has a Body Mass Index of over 30!  These numbers are only getting worse.

How to get started...

  •      Consult with your doctor before starting a rigorous exercise program.

  •     Make sure you are outfitted with proper shoes.  Having the right kind of shoes
can prevent injuries from your hips to your toes.  We have teamed up with

The Running Store in Gainesville who will provide you with a thorough
custom gate analysis and make recommendations for proper type of running or
              walking shoe.  Visit
www.TheRunningStoreTeam.com or call 703-753-4470 for
              details.

Now, the whole family is ready to get moving!
  •     Grab the kids off the sofa and take a nice brisk walk after dinner.
  •     Once you've gotten your heart rates up, start alternating jogging with walking
between mailboxes or telephone polls and continue for about 20-30 minutes.
  •     Next week,  start jogging for 1 minute and briskly walking for 1 minute.
  •     Every couple of days, increase your running time by 30 seconds while keeping
your walking time to 1 minute.  Try to keep this pattern going for at least 30
              m
inutes each day.

Weight Loss Ideas
Simply put, losing weight is burning more calories than you consume.
for 30-40 minutes during your workout routine.
  •     According to Fitness Trainer Paige Waehner, "the key is to safely reduce your
calories so that your body can continue to function as well as burn more calories.

Experts generally recommend losing no more than 1 to 2 pounds a week in order

to preserve your muscle mass and keep the weight off permanently. Your job is

simply to make better choices that will help you reduce your calorie intake from

300 to 500 calories each day."
